Lake District National Park is about 2 hour away. If you want to visit Edinburgh on weekend, it is just 3 hours away. It is definitely a good location with transportations. There are city tram and city bus available. They also have an international airport in the city. You can spend your school break visiting EU countries if you wish. It is just 1 hour 30 minutes to Paris. This is may be a reason why university students and young adults like to come to study in Manchester.
