Queenstown is a resort town in Otago on the South Island. The city is well-known for tourism, especially adventure and ski tourism. Most people are working in the tourism industry. Queenstown is ranked as one of the best cities for adventure tourism from Skiing, snowboarding, jet boating, whitewater rafting, bungy jumping, mountain biking, skateboarding, tramping, paragliding, sky diving and fly fishing which is all popular. Queenstown is also a major center for snow sports in New Zealand, with people from all over the country and many parts of the world traveling to ski at the four main mountains, which are Cardrona Alpine Resort, Coronet Peak, The Remarkables, and Treble Cone. This most fascinating town has attracted lots of travelers to visit. Queenstown is the city most worth visiting in New Zealand. The city is so chic and cool. Just a few minutes outside the city center, it will be a new World. Its abundance of nature and scenery is just beautiful. It would be great fun to come to study in Queenstown.
Studying in the attractive city
Even though Queenstown might not be one of the favorite destinations for international students because the city is really focusing on tourism, still there are lots of students coming here to take short language courses starting from 2 weeks. There are a few good language schools in town and they offer all year round Intensive English Course. There is Wakatipu High School, which is a government co-ed school and the Queenstown Resort College, which is a tertiary education provider focusing mainly on tourism. If you are looking for a short language course for your summer break and want to enjoy adventurous tourism as your activities, you have to come to study in Queenstown. Those who obtain student visas are also allowed to work as a part-time up to 20 hours per week but you have to make sure you can balance it with your class schedule too.
Living in Queenstown
Living condition in Queenstown is all right but requires good planning. There is a public bus available and you often see people use bicycles too. There are shops, groceries, and restaurants in the city center. People are generally friendly because it is a tourism city. You can choose to stay with a local host family provided by your school. You can also choose to stay in a student dormitory or a shared apartment with your friends. It is a wonderful opportunity to experience those adventurous sports such as speed boat riding, bungee jumping, or Skydiving. On the weekend you can simply go skiing or take a road trip to Milford Sounds to see the real beauty of nature. Mirror lakes can be seen along the way. You will not regret it at all and it will be a memorable time of your life if you come to study in Queenstown.
