Study in Scotland

“You can’t control the past, but you can control where you go next” by Kirsten Hubbard – The next stop is going to study in Scotland!

Scotland is a country that is part of the United Kingdom. It is located in the northernmost of the United Kingdom and surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean with more than 790 islands around. Scotland is divided into 32 council areas. There are only about 6 million in population but it is one of the commercials, education, business services, financial and industrial centers of Europe. Their main industries are in food & beverage, petroleum, machinery, electrical products, coal and iron mine. Scotland still has the largest oil reserves in Europe. Studying in Scotland has become one of the best choices of international students recently.

Fascinating cities

Edinburgh is the capital city and Glasgow is the most populous city. There is the city of Aberdeen, which is the third-largest city known as the oil capital of Europe. The city of Dundee is one of the growing technology cities in Europe. Highland is the largest city in terms of area and with its beautiful scenery and abundance of nature that make it one of the most beautiful natural attractions in the United Kingdom. You will surely enjoy visiting the painting-like scenery while studying in Scotland.

UNESCO World Heritage sites

Scotland has 6 places that were registered as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, which are the island of St. Kilda, Orkney Islands, New Lanark Village, the remains of the Anthony Wall in Falkirk, the Edinburgh city and the Fort Bridge, which is considered to be one of Scotland’s city symbols. Other interesting attractions are to ride a steam train crossing the Glenfinnan Viaduct with views of the Loch Shiel, which is the inspired place in one scene of the movie Harry Potter and to visit Loch Ness, which is famous and legendary of the Nessie photo.

Some people might think Scotland looks pretty much alike England but no, they are not the same. The Scottish English is quite a unique accent. Its legal system is separate from the British as well as education, governance, and religion. That’s why its culture, the people, and national identity remain as Scottish way even though the country is under the supervision of England. It was the past and you can’t control it, but you can control what is now. Go study in Scotland is definite the best choice for your future.

Living in Scotland is really convenient and simple. Their public transportation is great. There are trains and public bus services. You might also see people riding a bicycle around the city center. There are shops, restaurants, and grocery stores. There are also local markets in every city. As for accommodation, you can choose whether to stay in a student dormitory or find a shared apartment with your friends. Living with a host family arranged by schools is also an option and it is, in fact, a very good idea because you can practice more English with them and you will get to learn their cultures as well.

Scotland has many things to offer for after class activities and on the weekend. You can learn its famous traditional Scottish instrument, the Great Highland bagpipe. We would like to recommend you to visit their museums for more historic insights. Some of them are the Kelvingrove Museum, National Museum of Scotland, Peterhead Prison Museum, and Wick Heritage Museum. What would be the most enjoyable weekend activity is to take a ride and go outside the city. If you like to take photos of landscape and nature, Scotland is the place. You should also plan to visit small cities, like Inverness, Portree, Tobermory, Balloch or Peebles and there are many more. They are all beautiful.

You need to have a good plan if you want to visit as many of them while you are studying. Although everything seems simple in Scotland but it is also known for extreme sports. You might want to try bungee jumping at the Perthshire Bridge, cycling around the Applecross Peninsula, skydiving at the gliding, the East Lothian beach, or Goatfell.
